INDUSTRIAL WEBINAR

TITLE: “Evaluation of the in vitro and in soil activity of novel and established nitrification inhibitors: A model approach for the assessment of nitrification inhibitors efficacy in soil ecosystems”, Dr. Evangelia Papadopoulou, University of Thessaly

BRIEF INTRODUCTION: Currently available nitrification inhibitors (NIs) appear to selectively inhibit ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (ΑΟΒ), while their impact on other groups of nitrifiers is either limited or unknown, suggesting a suboptimal efficiency with serious practical implications. We provide a model, comparative approach for the investigation of the inhibition potential of novel and established NIs (DCD, nitrapyrin, DMPP) by evaluating their impact on soil microorganisms participating in nitrification process through in vitro and in soil tests.

AIM:

I. To establish a communication channel with fertilizers producers and putative end-users

II. To determine the practical implications of NITRIC research findings for the development of novel and effective NI-stabilized fertilizers with maximum efficiency against the full array of nitrifying microbes active in agricultural soils
