NITRIC: Looking up for Novel nITRification Inhibitors: New stories with old Compounds” is a project funded by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT) and the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI) in the frame of HFRI’s 1st Call for proposals submission to support the Postdoctoral Researchers.  The project is hosted by the Laboratory of Plant and Environmental Biotechnolgy,Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology (DBB), School of Health Sciences, University of Thessaly (UTH), and the administrative authority of the project is the Special Account for Research Grants of the University of Thessaly.

NITRIC is expected to provide a holistic assessment of the inhibitory effects of the antioxidant ethoxyquin and its oxidation derivatives on nitrification and on soil microorganisms participating in N cycling, in comparison with the currently used nitrification inhibitors, through a gradual experimental scaling up, from in vitro to soil assays.
